We’re pleased to announce that Dan Hoagland has become a partner at Nevada City Engineering, Inc., joining John Baker, Bill Green, and Andy Cassano in September 2016. Dan Hoagland is a Licensed Lland Surveyor, LS 8621, and further bolsters our excellent line up of land surveying services.

Dan was born in Napa and grew up in Benicia. He studied Illustration at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco. He discovered surveying helping his late step father, Chuck Evans, finding a talent and career that he loved. Like many other land surveyors, Dan learned much of his trade from apprenticeship, self-study, and practical experience.

It was Dan’s wife that brought him to Nevada County. He married Julie Velin in May 2005, sometime after a first date at Café Mekka in downtown Nevada City. He saw the beauty and quality of this area, and decided to live in this community and to raise their daughter here. Dan and Julie appreciate our family oriented work environment here at Nevada City Engineering.

Dan worked for Stephen Hein at California Land Surveying and Al Beeson for a time and eventually joined our company in 2007, where one of his tasks was to prepare, under Andy Cassano’s direction, a legal description of the entire Nevada Irrigation District, the largest and most complex legal description that we’ve ever done.

Perhaps sensing the pending onslaught of the Great Recession, Dan went to work for Caltrans in 2008, where he worked on construction staking and other surveying tasks while passing California’s rigorous land surveying licensing exams in 2010. His work with Caltrans included providing construction stakes for 10 major bridges and structures and he also worked extensively with boundaries and right of way.

He returned to our firm in 2015 and has been instrumental in completing complex construction staking for projects designed by Bill Green, including Forest Springs Mobilehome Community and the Ridge Meadows subdivision. We had a chance to again get to know Dan and after working together for several months, our board of directors unanimously supported accepting Dan as a partner.

Dan is an expert at wielding our state of the art surveying equipment to complete all surveying tasks as efficiently as possible. Dan is experienced in completing wireless communication infrastructure surveys, which we are now providing throughout Northern California. You’ll enjoy meeting him.
